Taipei, Oct. 5 (CNA) A Vietnamese university student surnamed Lê was arrested after allegedly robbing a convenience store in Miaoli County with a BB gun and stabbing a police officer in the jaw, according to the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office.

The prosecutors, who have requested that Lê be formally detained pending pre-trial investigation, said the incident occurred early Friday in Zhunan Township, where the suspect allegedly shot a store clerk with a BB gun while committing robbery at the store.

Later that evening, as police attempted to apprehend him, the suspect stabbed an officer in the jaw with a knife before fleeing, prosecutors said.

Under the direction of Prosecutor Su Hao-hsiang (蘇皜翔), police located and arrested Lê around 6 p.m. Saturday in Hsinchu City's Xiangshan District.

After questioning him on Sunday afternoon, prosecutors determined that Lê was suspected of aggravated robbery, assault, aggravated obstruction of a public official engaging in the performance of their duties, and attempted murder.

The Miaoli District Prosecutors Office said it has petitioned the Miaoli District Court to detain the suspect, citing the seriousness of the alleged crimes and risk of flight.
