Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Friday warned of temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan.

The CWA indicated that the mercury in northern Taiwan will range between 37 and 38 degrees on Friday.

An "orange" alert warning was issued for Taipei, New Taipei, and Taichung cities, indicating daytime highs of 38 degrees or daily maximum temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.

Meanwhile, "yellow" warnings were issued for Taoyuan as well as Yunlin and Chiayi counties, where daily maximum temperatures will reach 36 degrees, the CWA said.

According to the CWA, with severe tropical storm Matmo passing through the Philippines' Luzon Island towards the South China Sea, the effects of its outer cloud bands will bring moisture to southeastern Taiwan.

Brief and localized precipitation has been forecasted for Hualien, Pingtung, and parts of Taitung counties, while more palpable showers have been predicted across the Hengchun Peninsula and parts of Taitung.

The CWA said the chances of rain will increase throughout the day.

Additionally, the administration said that while locations north of Kaohsiung and also Yilan County will be cloudy with a chance of sun, mountainous areas in those regions could see brief thundershowers in the afternoon.

The CWA also warned of localized strong winds over the northern coast of Keelung, the Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, and Yilan, with gusts reaching level 6 to 8 on the Beaufort scale.

The winds can cause swells along the coasts of eastern Taiwan, including Orchid and Green islands, and along the Hengchun Peninsula, with waves reaching as high as three meters, according to the CWA.
