New Taipei, July 29 (CNA) Two workers were killed in separate industrial accidents in New Taipei on Tuesday, prompting investigations by labor authorities and police.
One incident occurred at a warehouse on Section 2 of Wenhua 2nd Road in Linkou District around midday, when a man surnamed Lin (林) was fatally injured while attempting to secure a large drill, according to the Linkou Police Precinct.
A man surnamed Lai (賴), identified as the site supervisor, accompanied Lin to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead after emergency treatment was unsuccessful.
Later in the day, a second incident occurred at a construction site in Taishan District on Xinhua 5th Street, the precinct said.
A man surnamed Pan (潘) fell from the 11th floor while assembling scaffolding, according to police in Taishan District.
Pan was found unconscious and seriously injured by emergency responders, and he later died at Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital, the police said.
Both deaths have been reported to the New Taipei Labor Affairs Department, and the Labor Standards Inspection Office has conducted on-site inspections.
In both cases, the office ordered the suspension of operations at the sites in question.
If negligence is confirmed, the case will be forwarded to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for offenses under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the office said.
