Taipei, June 24 (CNA) Chinese electronics maker Anker Innovations Co. is recalling more than 700,000 power banks worldwide over potential overheating risks, with only 5,500 units of the A1257 model affected in Taiwan, Anker's distributor in Taiwan said Tuesday.
Anker announced on June 20 the recall of over 700,000 power banks across seven models due to potential overheating risks and even combustion.
However, only one basic model, the A1257, is sold on the Taiwan market, involving fewer than 5,500 units, according to a notice published Tuesday on Anker Taiwan's official website.
The model has already been delisted and is no longer for sale on the official website. Other models under concern were never imported or sold by Anker's distributor in Taiwan.
Anker Taiwan said that on learning of the recall in some regions, it promptly conducted an internal review of all products sold locally. That confirmed only a batch of the A1257 Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W) was affected.
The company has reported the issue to Taiwan's authorities and initiated a proactive, preventive recall of the model.
It added that the A1257 model has been removed from its online store, and Anker Taiwan has ended its partnership with the supplier in question.
It switched to a new battery cell supplier and is preparing a comprehensive recall response to ensure user safety, the company said.
