Taipei, May 30 (CNA) The outer ring of Tropical Storm Jangmi is forecast to bring rain to Taiwan next week, but the system is unlikely to have a direct impact on the country, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said on Saturday.
As of 8 a.m. Saturday, the eye of the storm was located about 1,110 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, moving at a pace of 22 km per hour toward Okinawa, according to the CWA.
On Saturday, mostly sunny skies are expected to continue, the CWA said, forecasting that highs in the north could hit 31-32 degrees and reach 32-33 degrees in central and southern Taiwan.
However, inland areas in the south could see even higher temperatures on Saturday as the CWA issued an "orange" heat advisory for Tainan City, indicating highs could exceed 38 degrees, or reach 36 degrees for three consecutive days.
The CWA said the heat warning will continue into late Saturday afternoon.
With Jangmi approaching, the CWA said, starting from Monday, the storm's outer band could bring rain to northern Taiwan and Yilan in the northeast, and such wet weather is likely to continue into Tuesday.
Rain could lower daytime temperatures in northern Taiwan to 30-31 degrees Celsius from Monday to Tuesday, while central and southern regions are likely to see a minor impact from the storm with only showers in mountainous areas and temperatures likely to remain high, ranging between 33 and 34 degrees, the CWA said.
It said the storm is expected to move away from Taiwan on Wednesday and stable weather conditions are forecast to return to northern areas.
With a warm southerly wind system set to move in, the CWA said, daytime temperatures in western Taiwan are expected to rise to 33-34 degrees from Wednesday and some areas in the south could see the mercury top 36 degrees, paving the path for a possible heat alert from the weather agency.
