CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 3,058 new COVID-19 cases, including 2,969 domestic

Taipei, April 21 (CNA) Taiwan on Thursday reported 3,058 new COVID-19 cases, including 2,969 domestically transmitted infections from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The number of domestic cases was another single-day high and marked a full week of over 1,000 per day.
The CECC also said that six patients, ranging in age from 50 to 100, had developed moderate infections of COVID-19.
Two of them are unvaccinated, one had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, one of them had gotten two doses, and two had received three shots, the CECC said.
Of the 15,544 domestic cases recorded nationwide between Jan. 1 and April 20, five have been classified as severe infections and 57 as moderate, together accounting for 0.4 percent of the total number, while the other cases were either mild or asymptomatic, according to the CECC.
On Thursday, New Taipei reported the highest number of domestic cases, with 1,000, followed by Taipei with 663, Taoyuan with 414, and Keelung with 216.
Taichung reported 139 cases, Hualien County 92, Kaohsiung 82, Yilan County 80, Yunlin County 42, Hsinchu County 38, Changhua County 37, Hsinchu and Tainan cities 34 each, Pingtung County 32, Taitung County 22, Miaoli County 19, and Nantou County 10.
Chiayi City recorded six cases and Chiayi County five, while Penghu County and the Matsu Islands each reported two.
Of the 89 new imported cases, 78 were travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, according to the CECC.
To date, Taiwan has confirmed 43,243 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 33,113 domestically transmitted infections, CECC data showed.
With no deaths reported Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 856.
