CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan office in France confirms another COVID-19 case: MOFA
Taipei, Aug. 7 (CNA) Another staff member at Taiwan's representative office in France has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Friday.
The employee developed flu-like symptoms earlier in the week and was tested at a local hospital, MOFA said, adding that the results came back positive on Wednesday.
The employee is now in home isolation and receiving treatment, the foreign ministry said.
Another employee at the office, who came into contact with the patient, has also been instructed to follow a 14-day home quarantine protocol and will be tested, MOFA said.
Meanwhile, the entire office has been disinfected in a bid to prevent the spread of the disease, the ministry said.
As a precautionary measure, all the staff at the Taipei Representative Office in France will work for shorter hours, on a rotational basis, for 14 consecutive days between 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to the ministry.
The COVID-19 case this week came after an employee at Taiwan's office in France was confirmed on April 27 to be infected with the virus, becoming the first confirmed case at Taiwan's overseas missions.
MOFA said if any other COVID-19 infections are confirmed at the office, its consular services will be suspended, taking into consideration the safety of the staff and the current pandemic situation in France.
Based on the latest World Health Organization data, France has recorded 181,652 cases of COVID-19 and 30,182 deaths as of Friday.
