Taipei, Sept. 16 (CNA) A promotional campaign that offers pairs of foreign tourists two Taiwan High Speed Rail tickets for the price of one will be extended from Monday to Jan. 20, 2020, according to the Tourism Bureau.

Eligible tourists must hold a visa for "short-term stay" (less than 180 days) or visa-exempt entry, and the promotion is not available for foreign nationals holding residency in Taiwan for education or employment purposes, the bureau said.

The number of tickets is limited, the bureau said, adding that once purchased, they have to be redeemed and used within 89 days, starting from the day after date of purchase.

In addition, the discount package is only available for adult passengers, who must travel together for the same interval, with the destinations being only Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan or Zuoying (Kaohsiung).

The campaign is aimed at boosting travel interest in central and southern Taiwan as it enters its second year, the bureau said.

It is particularly hoped that the promotion will provide incentives for tourists wishing to visit the Feb. 8-23 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taichung, the bureau added.

Tickets are available from KKday (https://thsrc.kkday.red-digital.com), KLOOK (https://www.klook.com/en-US/promo/klkthsrc2019) or Lion Travel (https://thsrc.journeyonapp.com/index_en-US.html)
