Taipei, Jan. 25 (CNA) As the Lunar New Year approaches, it is again time for many people in Taiwan to undergo plastic surgery.

With the Lunar New Year still three weeks away, the number of independent tourists from China scheduling cosmetic surgery procedures in Taiwan has recently peaked, while Taiwanese customers do not typically rush to clinics until the final week before the Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 19 this year, said Dr. Yang Chih-shun (楊志雄) with Taipei-baed Star Clinic.

According to Yang, booking surgery appointments usually begins one month before the Lunar New Year, driven mainly by strong demand from Chinese customers who tour Taiwan during the holiday period following their treatment.

Chinese customers opt to improve their looks in Taiwan, often choosing non-invasive micro facial enhancements, primarily because of Taiwanese doctors' advanced techniques, better services, shared language and less expensive costs than in South Korea, business sources said.

Taiwanese patients prefer to schedule plastic surgery one week before the New Year holiday to allow them more time to recover at home from the surgery.

Ultrasonic wave facial skin enhancements, laser procedures and hyaluronic acid or clostridium botulinum injections to remove wrinkles are popular among both aging Taiwanese and Chinese patients, while young men and women schedule surgeries to improve facial features, Yang noted.
