Taipei, Oct. 1 (CNA) The Golden Horse Awards announced the nominations for its 63rd installment on Thursday, with "Arrested Memory" (狂忘警探) leading the tally with 11 nominations, according to the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee.
"Arrested Memory" was nominated for best narrative feature, director, leading actor, supporting actor, cinematography, art direction, makeup and costume design, action choreography, original film song, film editing, and sound effects, the committee said in a news release.
This darkly comedic crime thriller follows a Taiwanese detective who develops amnesia shortly after being transferred to a new post and becomes embroiled in a high-profile kidnapping case as his memory deteriorates.
Japanese filmmaker Hiroyuki Tanaka, known professionally as Sabu, directed the film.
Meanwhile, Shu Qi's (舒淇) directorial debut "Girl" (女孩) ranked second with 10 nominations, while "Double Happiness" (雙囍), and "We Are Born Good" (善男信女) tied for third with nine nominations each, according to the release.
This year's competition received 587 submissions, including 92 feature films, three animated features, 60 documentaries, 294 narrative short films, 71 documentary shorts, and 67 animated shorts, the committee said.
For Best Actor, Leon Dai (戴立忍) was nominated for his role in "Kung Fu" (功夫) alongside Liu Kuan-ting (劉冠廷) of "Double Happiness," Yeung Wai-lun (楊偉倫) of "We Are Born Good," and Ethan Juan (阮經天) of "Arrested Memory," and Jack Tan (陳澤耀) of "Dead Tide" (黑潮).
There are no Taiwanese actors among Best Actress nominees, with the contenders being Angela Yuen (袁澧林) of "Afterpiece" (第四幕), Jennifer Yu (余香凝) of "Double Happiness," Liang Cuishan (梁翠珊) of "Big Little Things" (謊言生活), Chung Suet-ying (鍾雪瑩) of "We Are Born Good," and Yeo Yann Yann (楊雁雁) of "We Are All Strangers" (我們不是陌生人).
The nominees for best narrative feature are "Girl," "Double Happiness," "We Are Born Good," "Arrested Memory," and "We Are All Strangers."
According to the committee, the awards ceremony will be held on Nov. 22 at the Taipei Music Center, with the red carpet starting at 5 p.m. and the ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
