Taiwan's PTS wins best video game award at AAA's in Singapore
Taipei, Dec. 7 (CNA) Taiwan's Public Television Servic (PTS) won the Best Video Game Award Thursday at the 2018 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA's) in Singapore with "Kidz," adapted from the PTS TV series "On Children."
Lee Yang (李羏), who accepted the award on behalf of PTS, said that "Kidz" is a cross-media innovation which shows the importance for traditional TV stations of transforming and adapting to the rise of new media.
Lee added that PTS plans to tell more stories with new media to reach a more diverse audience.
Television networks from Taiwan are shortlisted in 12 award categories at the 2018 AAA's, including Best Video Game, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Children's Programme, Best Direction (Non-Fiction), Best Single Drama or Telemovie, Best Documentary Series, Best Documentary Programme (one-off/special), Best Branded Programme or Series, Best Natural History or Wildlife Programme, Best Lifestyle Programme, and Best Ad.
The award ceremony runs from Thursday until Friday and is being held as part of the fifth Singapore Media Festival (SMF) that started on Nov. 28 and will end on Dec. 9. It is hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) and celebrates the best in Asian storytelling, according an SMF media release.
The online game platform Steam described "Kidz" as a 2D side scrolling game which features 3 kids confronting the pressure of parents and adults with different narrative techniques such as action horror, point and click, and parkour.
"On Children," directed by Taiwan Golden Bell Awards winner Chen Hui-ling (陳慧翎), comprises five tales that reveal a world where children face the tragic consequences of social pressure, parental oppression, and family dysfunction, the American media-services provider Netflix said.
