Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) Hollywood comedian Rob Schneider was recognized in Taipei Tuesday for his contributions in boosting travel to Taiwan.

Schneider smiled as he held up an award granted by the Tourism Bureau at an event honoring 172 professionals and groups in the travel industry for their efforts to draw more sightseers to the island.

The American actor, best known in Taiwan for the "Deuce Bigalow" series, and his wife honeymooned in Taiwan in 2011 because previous trips to Taiwan had left him impressed with the friendliness of locals and Taiwanese cuisine.

The couple returned to Taiwan in 2012 to have wedding shots taken at Cape San Diego in northeastern Taiwan.

They later agreed to offer the photos to Taiwan's tourism authorities for use in promoting travel in Taiwan.
