Xi prefers 'peaceful' unification of Taiwan: U.S. official

Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) is leaning toward unifying Taiwan in a "peaceful" manner but is also preparing possible military action to achieve the goal, a top U.S. intelligence official said at a hearing on Capitol Hill on Thursday.
