Taipei, Dec. 4 (CNA) A total of 15 receipts with the serial number 72054514 won NT$10 million (US$318,641) in Taiwan's September-October Uniform Invoice lottery, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Monday.
Another 15 receipts with the serial number 92488868 won the lottery's NT$2 million grand prize, according to the MOF.
The MOF released the winning invoice lottery numbers for the September-October period on Nov. 25. In addition to the two most coveted prizes, the three numbers for the NT$200,000 first prize were 98111935, 57355279 and 74926745. (Taiwan's invoice app: iOS / Android)
Holders of receipts whose serial numbers match the last seven digits of the first-prize numbers win NT$40,000, while those with invoices whose serial numbers match the last six digits win NT$10,000.
Other prizes are NT$4,000 for receipts with the last five digits of the first-prize numbers, NT$1,000 for receipts with the last four digits, and NT$200 for invoices with the last three digits.
The government instituted the Uniform Invoice lottery to give consumers an incentive to ask for receipts to prevent tax evasion by businesses and boost tax revenues.
Each formal receipt includes a 5 percent business tax (a value-added tax) collected by the government and provides a clear record of each company's sales revenue, making it easier to track taxable revenue and income.
The MOF said it was still checking through the winning receipts and would release a detailed winning list later Monday.
However, as of Monday, major retailers in Taiwan such as the 7-Eleven, FamilyMart and Hi-Life convenience store chains and the PX Mart supermarket chain had disclosed the winning receipts issued by their stores.
FamilyMart said its outlets issued two receipts each with the NT$10 million special prize number. The two receipts were both for purchases of less than NT$20.
President Chain Store Corp., which runs 7-Eleven stores around Taiwan, said its outlets issued two receipts with the winning special prize number and two with the winning grand prize number.
PXMart also issued one receipt with the special prize number.
Those holding prize-winning receipts can claim their winnings from Dec. 6, 2023 until March 5, 2024, the ministry said, adding that prizes up to NT$1,000 can be collected from 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, OK Mart, Hi-Life, PX Mart and Simple Mart.
