Jobless rate improves in March
Taipei, April 22 (CNA) Taiwan posted an unemployment rate of 3.68 percent as of the end of March, down 0.04 percentage points from a month earlier, according to statistics released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) Monday.
After taking seasonal factors into consideration, however, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose 0.01 percentage points from a month earlier to 3.72 percent, the data showed.
After people quit jobs and took up new positions following the Lunar New Year holiday, there were 5,000 more people employed in March compared to the previous month.
The figures also showed that the labor force participation rate was 59.06 percent in March, down 0.01 percentage points from the previous month.
Pan Ning-hsin (潘寧馨), deputy director of the DGBAS census department, said the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has been stable in recent months, moving no higher than 3.73 percent since June 2018, with recent fluctuations all within 0.01-0.02 percentage points.
"The change was slight. The unemployment situation is considered stable," said Pan.
