Los Angeles, May 14 (CNA) Julie Kuo (郭瑞筠) became the first woman of Taiwanese descent to compete in the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas Sunday, although she failed to make the final five in the contest.

Kuo was born in Tainan and emigrated to Hawaii with her family at the age of 10.

The 23-year-old glows with good health and plays the violin well. She won the Miss Hawaii title in November 2016.

Before taking part in the pageant, she expressed hope that the world could see Taiwan through her appearance in the pageant. Kuo is stunningly attractive, whether in a swimsuit or evening gown, according to the official website of the pageant.

Miss District of Columbia Kara McCullough, 25, who emigrated to the United States from Italy, won the title of Miss USA 2017.
