Bangkok, March 20 (CNA) Thai immigration police are helping with a search for a Taiwanese businessman who reportedly lost contact with his family in late February after flying to Thailand in January, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand said Monday.

The man, surnamed Hsieh (謝), flew to Bangkok on an EVA Airways flight on Jan. 31, but there was no information of his whereabouts after entering the country, the representative office of the Republic of China (Taiwan) said.

At the request of Hsieh's family, the office has asked Thai immigration police authorities to check if the man has already left the country or not, the office said, and it is now waiting for their answer.

According to a statement from Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hsieh's family filed an official report of the man's disappearance on March 15 after having been out of touch with him since the end of February, and it asked for the ministry's help in finding him.

After the report was filed, the ministry instructed the representative office to Thailand to help with the search by asking for the Thai side's assistance, the statement said.
