Kaohsiung light rail train derails during trial run

Kaohsiung, Oct. 19 (CNA) A train belonging to Kaohsiung's light rail system derailed during a trial run Monday. No injuries were reported.

The accident, which occurred at the C4 stop at 12:42 p.m., involved a tire located between the first and the second carriages, Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. (KRTC) said.

The cause of the derailment is being investigated by the Spanish contractor CAF, KRTC said.



Soon after the accident occurred, the 40 passengers on the train were evacuated and transported on another train back to the C1 stop, the main terminal for the trial run, the company said.

It said the accident has not affected the trial run, which continued on the other track.

The light rail system began its trial run on Oct. 16.
