El Salvador vice president in Taiwan to improve ties

Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) The vice president of El Salvador, Oscar Samuel Ortiz Ascencio, is currently in Taiwan to forge stronger cooperation with the country, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

The vice president Ortiz is the highest-ranking incumbent official of El Salvador who has ever visited Taiwan, which marks a milestone in bilateral exchanges, the ministry said in a statement.

He will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and Vice President Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) during his stay from Sept. 6-10, according to the ministry.

Ortiz is also expected to attend the inaugural ceremony of an economic branch of the Embassy of the Republic of El Savador in Taipei, and host several briefings for Taiwanese investors on trade opportunities with the Central American country.
