Taipei, June 29 (CNA) A kaoliang liquor produced by the Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Co. (TTLC) has been awarded "Best Baijiu" at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), the TTLC said Friday.
The winning spirit -- Yushan Yuan Jiao 8 Year Old Kaoliang Liquor -- is manufactured by TTLC's Chiayi distillery, said the distillery's director, Chung Kuo-tsai (鍾國材).
In addition to "Best Baijiu," the 52% ABV liquor was honored with the "Double Gold Medal" at the competition, which entitles it to be listed in The Tasting Panel Magazine, which "reaches over 65,000 beverage-trade decision makers," according to the website's introduction to the competition.
TTLC's Chiayi distillery, which is the first kaoliang distillery in Taiwan, has been in existence for more than 60 years, and it is this experience that has contributed to the quality of Yushan Yuan Jiao 8 Year Old Kaoliang Liquor, Chung said.
The SFWSC competition, founded in 2000, is one of the oldest competitions in world spirits. It received more than 2,000 entries from around the world in 2018.
