Taipei, July 31 (CNA) Taiwanese badminton duo Chien Yu-chin and Cheng Wen-hsing have rebounded from the verge of elimination in the group stage tournaments to advance to the Olympic women's doubles quarterfinals in London.
Chien and Cheng defeated Reika Kakiiwa and Mizuki Fujii of Japan 21-19, 21-11 Tuesday, after a tough loss in their second of three group stage matches the previous day.
With their straight-game win, the team finished a the top of their group to secure a spot in the eight-team knockout stage.
In the men's singles, however, Taiwan's Hsu Jen-hao lost to South Korean Son Wan-ho 21-14, 21-10 in the group stage games that same day.
Because he was also defeated in his previous game, Hsu lost his chance to continue, dashing his hopes of Olympic glory.
Hsu was Taiwan's only entry in the men's singles.
