Taipei, July 6 (CNA) Police found six undocumented Vietnamese migrant workers, four of whom allegedly tested positive for drug use, while investigating a parking violation in Taoyuan last Thursday, the Taoyuan police said Monday.

The six workers, aged between 30 and 40, were discovered after officers on patrol in Bade District spotted a vehicle parked in violation of traffic regulations and approached it to question the driver, police said.

The officers also found drug inhalers and residue of amphetamines, a second-stage controlled drug in Taiwan, on the driver.

Though all six denied using drugs, four tested positive during a subsequent drug screening at a police station.

Officers also found that one of the four was wanted in connection with a fraud case after checking the workers' identities.

The case will be transferred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office for investigation on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and the Immigration Act and committing offenses against public safety and fraud.

No further information was given on the Vietnamese nationals.

Migrant workers described as undocumented often have legal work contracts when they start in Taiwan but later leave their contracted employers illegally.
