Taiwan signs MOU on helping develop smart medicine in Ukraine

Taipei, Aug. 26 (CNA) The TaiwanICDF, Taiwan's main foreign aid agency, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ukrainian city of Lviv on Tuesday to help modernize two of its hospitals, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Wednesday.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) on "Smart Healthcare Enhancement" was signed in a hybrid format, with TaiwanICDF Secretary General Huang Yu-lin (黃玉霖) in Taipei and Lviv officials gathered in the Lviv City Council session hall.

It will pave the way for the launch of a Taiwan-funded project aimed at strengthening the emergency departments and intensive care units of St. Panteleimon Hospital and St. Nicholas Children's Hospital by integrating hardware, software and AI-driven information systems.

The project will also provide professional training for medical and IT personnel at the two hospitals and is expected to benefit Lviv's 720,000 residents, MOFA said in its statement.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi expressed gratitude for Taiwan's support and friendship at the signing ceremony, which came the day after Ukraine celebrated the 35th anniversary of its independence.
