Taichung MRT celebrates 50 millionth journey with prize giveaway

Taipei, June 10 (CNA) The Taichung MRT on Monday marked the milestone of 50 million cumulative rides and announced a prize giveaway in partnership with Starlux Airlines, according to Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corp. (TMRTC).

The passenger whose trip constituted the 50 millionth journey recorded on the system will receive a pair of Starlux business class round-trip tickets from Taichung to any destination in Asia, the company said in an online statement.

According to company, the milestone passenger took the ride by entering at Jiushe Station with an iPASS card and exiting at Taichung City Hall Station on Monday at 2:45 p.m., using card number 35000104351.

The passengers whose trips constituted the 49,999,999th and 50,000,001st rides on the system will also each be awarded a Starlux economy class round-trip ticket from Taichung to a destination in Asia, the company said.

The company said the 49,999,999th ride was recorded by a passenger entering at Jiude Station with an EasyCard and exiting at Taichung City Hall Station at 2:45 p.m., using card number 8300675201667374.

The 50,000,001st ride was recorded by a passenger who entered at Daqing Station with an EasyCard and exited at the same time and place, using card number 8430997668, according to the company.

TMRTC congratulated the three passengers and asked them to contact the company to claim their prizes.

The company said the event marked its first joint "land and air" campaign with Starlux Airlines, a Taiwanese full-service carrier headquartered in Taipei, to promote the development of transportation in Taichung.

The company also expressed gratitude to the public for helping the metro system in Taiwan's centrally located metropolis reach the 50-million-ride milestone.

TMRTC said it will continue working to improve service quality and operational efficiency, and to provide a safer and more reliable riding environment.

The Taichung MRT officially opened for passenger service in April 2021, according to the company's website.
