Taipei, Dec. 3 (CNA) A weather front forecast to hit Taiwan on Monday will bring rain to parts of the country and a chance of the winter's first snow at high elevations, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

CWA forecaster Yeh Chih-chun (葉致均) told CNA that with the front's arrival, continued and possibly heavy rain is expected in north and central Taiwan, along with isolated showers in the south and east.

The wet weather will last through midweek, before giving way to sunny and partly cloudy weather on Thursday and Friday, Yeh said.

Over the week, temperatures are expected to reach highs of 20-22 degrees Celsius in the north and 24-28 degrees in central and southern Taiwan, according to Yeh.

The week's lowest temperatures will come in the early hours of Thursday and Friday, when the mercury will drop to 14-16 degrees in the north and central Taiwan and 17-18 degrees in the south and east, Yeh said.

With the combination of moist air and cooler temperatures, snow or graupel (soft hail) could also fall for the first time this winter early on Monday or Wednesday morning, likely at high elevations on Yushan or Xueshan, Yeh said.
