Taipei, June 23 (CNA) A fuel explosion at the Hsinchu Air Force Base on Tuesday morning that was likely caused by a fuel pump malfunction has left one mechanic injured.
The Army Logistics Command said in a statement that the blast originated in a fuel storage tank belonging to its Third Regional Support Command, which is located in the air base.
The accident was suspected to have been caused by a fuel pump malfunction while related cleaning work was being performed by a contractor.
One mechanic was injured in the process and has been hospitalized at National Taiwan University Hospital's Hsinchu Branch, but the individual's condition is not life-threatening.
The Hsinchu Fire Bureau has put out the blaze resulting from the blast, but police and firefighters will continue their investigation into what caused the accident.
No military equipment was damaged during the explosion, the command said.
