Scenes from the campaign trail: Legislative election contenders draw ballot numbers
Taipei, Dec. 20 (CNA) Candidates for the upcoming January 2024 legislative election drew lots Wednesday to decide the order they will be listed on the ballot, in a lottery conducted by the Central Election Commission (CEC).
Party nominees also drew lots for the order of the closed-list ballot for legislator-at-large seats.
Deputy Secretary-General of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Yang Yi-shan (楊懿珊) drew the sixth position, while the main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) placed ninth, the CEC said after the draw was completed.
The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) will appear 12th on the ballot, with the New Power Party listed eighth, according to the CEC.
The Legislative Yuan has 113 members, 73 of which are directly elected by voters in single-member districts. A further six are elected by Indigenous voters, while 34 are allocated based on the proportion of separately cast list votes a party receives.
Taiwan's legislative election will be held on Jan. 13, 2024, the same day as the country's presidential vote, with some 19.5 million voters expected to head to the polls.
