Taipei, April 3 (CNA) Two weather fronts will move across Taiwan in succession starting Saturday, bringing significant rainfall to northern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Friday.

CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) told CNA that from Saturday through early Sunday, a frontal system will bring notable rainfall to northern Taiwan, with thunderstorms expected across western parts of the island.

Short bursts of heavy rain are likely in northern areas, while eastern Taiwan may also see scattered showers or thunderstorms, Chang said.

He said the front will begin to weaken on Sunday, which coincides with Tomb-Sweeping Day, reducing rainfall during the day, though brief showers or thunderstorms may still occur.

Another front is expected to approach Taiwan on Monday, Chang said, adding that, combined with a strengthening northeastern monsoon, it will bring increased rainfall.

There will be showers in areas north of central Taiwan, while other regions will see cloudy skies with afternoon thunderstorms, he said.

On Tuesday, under the combined influence of the front and the northeastern monsoon, rainfall is expected to intensify, with heavier rain in the north and brief showers or thunderstorms elsewhere.

Although the front will move away on Wednesday, moisture will remain high, bringing brief showers to areas north of central Taiwan and the northeast, with sporadic rain in other regions, Chang said.

From Thursday, weather conditions are expected to stabilize, with sunny to partly cloudy skies across Taiwan.

As for temperatures, rainfall from Saturday will bring cooler conditions to central and northern Taiwan and the northeast, with daytime highs of around 23-25 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures in the north are expected to rise slightly on Monday before dipping again to 24-25 degrees on Tuesday due to the northeastern monsoon. Southern Taiwan will be less affected, with highs remaining around 29 degrees, Chang said.
