Taipei, March 22 (CNA) Former Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Tung Chen-yuan (童振源) has been appointed to replace Francis Liang (梁國新) as Taiwan's representative to Singapore, the Presidential Office announced Wednesday.
In a social media post, Tung, who stood down from his ministerial post in January as part of a Cabinet reshuffle, said he felt deeply honored and understood that he has a grave responsibility to shoulder, adding he will do his best to fulfill his duty.
Tung, 54, was appointed Taiwan's representative to Thailand in July 2017, serving in the post for almost three years before being appointed OCAC minister in May 2020.
Prior to this, Tung had a 10-month stint as President Tsai Ing-wen's (蔡英文) advisor on national security beginning in 2016.
Concurrent to his political career, Tung, who received a doctorate degree from John Hopkins' School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), has held a teaching position at National Chengchi University since 2002.
