Independent pulls out of presidential race

Independent presidential candidate Shih Ming-teh (施明德) announced Tuesday in a Facebook statement that he will withdraw from the presidential election next year, saying that he will be unable to collect the nearly 300,000 signatures he needs for a petition to run for president.
