Defense University head Chiu Kuo-cheng named deputy defense minister

Taipei, July 28 (CNA) Gen. Chiu Kuo-cheng, president of National Defense University, has been named the new deputy defense minister, the Ministry of National Defense said Monday.

Chiu will take up the post effective Aug. 1, the ministry said in a statement. He will fill the spot left by Gen. Lee Shying-jow, who is now the director-general of the National Security Bureau.

Lt. Gen. Zheng De-mei, the deputy commander of the Army, will succeed Chiu as the president of National Defense University and will also be promoted to general, both effective from Aug. 1, the ministry said.
