Seasonal winds to bring cooler weather across parts of Taiwan

Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) Taiwan will see cooler weather and intermittent rain in northern and eastern areas next week, with temperatures dipping to 19 degrees Celsius from Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Saturday.

CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) told CNA that the northeast wind will weaken briefly on Sunday before strengthening again starting Monday, bringing occasional showers to northern and eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south.

Taipei and northeastern Taiwan could also see locally heavy rain on Monday, Chang said.

Temperatures are expected to rise initially on Sunday, with highs of 30-31 degrees in eastern Taiwan and 32-35 degrees in western Taiwan, he said.

However, temperatures will fall more noticeably as the stronger northeast wind arrives, he said. Highs in northern and northeastern Taiwan are forecast to drop to around 26 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing cooler conditions throughout the day.

Clearer and drier weather on Thursday and Friday will allow nighttime temperatures to fall further due to radiational cooling, Chang said.

Lows in central and northern Taiwan and the northeast are expected to reach 19-21 degrees, while other areas will see lows of around 22-23 degrees.
