Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) Scattered brief showers are expected in Greater Taipei and the eastern half of Taiwan on Saturday, while other areas will see partly cloudy to sunny skies, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

However, due to seasonal northeasterly winds, mountainous areas of Yilan County could see localized heavy or extremely heavy rain during the day, the CWA said, advising people in the area to watch out for lightning, strong gusts and landslides.

Independent weather expert Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said brief showers could persist intermittently in northern and eastern Taiwan through Sunday.

Besides the rain, Wu said temperatures are expected to dip slightly in northern and eastern Taiwan Saturday, while central and southern Taiwan would remain warm during the day, with cooler temperatures in the morning and evening.

Daytime temperatures are expected to range from 23-30 degrees Celsius in the north, 23-35 degrees in central Taiwan, and 22-35 degrees in the south, he said.

Seasonal northeasterly winds are forecast to strengthen Monday and Tuesday, bringing cooler weather and rain to the northern parts of the country on those two days, Wu said.

From Wednesday to Friday, weather will be generally stable, with partly cloudy skies and occasional light rain in some areas, he added.
