Typhoon agricultural losses exceed NT$400 million

Taipei, July 14 (CNA) Taiwan's agricultural sector suffered losses estimated at NT$400.61 million (US$13.47 million) as a result of Typhoon Soulik as of 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the Council of Agriculture.

The figure includes NT$369.64 million in agricultural produce losses, NT$649,000 in losses of livestock and forestry, and NT$30.32 million in damage to facilities.

Nantou County suffered the heaviest loss of NT$88.11 million, while losses in Yilan County, Miaoli County and Taichung City were estimated at NT$85.36 million, NT$74.74 million and NT$51.4 million, respectively.

Crops of rice, bananas, pears, guavas and bamboo were the most heavily affected when Soulik brought strong winds and heavy downpours as it swept past northern Taiwan late Friday and early Saturday.
