Taipei, June 23 (CNA) Members of the Taiwanese rock band Maydayshared a banana on stage to represent their friendship aftergrabbing the Best Band award Saturday at the 23rd Golden MelodyAwards.
"I want to thank the band's four other members, Stone, Monster, Guan You and Masa. If friendship is a long poem, I think the poem would taste like a banana," Ashin, the band's vocalist, said during his acceptance speech.
He then pulled out a banana and the five members took turns eating the fruit.
The band, formed in the late 1990s, won the award for its album "Second Round," released in 2011 after a three-year wait.
They beat Taiwanese bands Sodagreen, Tizzy Bac, Buddha Jump and Mary See the Future to capture the prize.
Meanwhile, aboriginal singer Llid Kaolo won the Best New Artist category, while Best Music Arranger went to George Chen for his work on "Noah's Ark" from Mayday's "Second Round."
