Taipei, June 18 (CNA) Hon Hai Group, the world's largest contract electronics maker, said Monday it is gearing up to offer cross-platform applications since it has completed vertical integration of new technologies.
Hon Hai Chairman Terry Guo said at a shareholders' general meeting that the group has become one of the few companies worldwide that are capable of tapping into Apple's Inc.'s iOS, Google Inc.'s Android and Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 8 operating systems at the same time.
The conglomerate has integrated new technologies into software applications, which can be used in any of the three operating systems, he said.
In terms of research and development, Guo said he is confident that Hon Hai will beat South Korean rival Samsung Electronics Co. in high-resolution display technology through its partnership with Japan's Sharp Corp.
Hon Hai has also developed both in-cell and on-cell technologies to make thinner and lighter touch panels, Guo added.
He said Hon Hai is well-poised to break into applications on multiple screens from smartphones, tablets, and TVs to large-sized outdoor LED displays, with these end-user devices connected to each other via cloud computing technology.
Hon Hai is the main contract manufacturer of Apple products.
