Cooler, wetter weather forecast in northern Taiwan next week

Taipei, Sept. 30 (CNA) Seasonal northeasterly winds will bring cooler temperatures and rain to northern and eastern Taiwan from Monday, with daytime highs forecast to drop to around 27-28 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Wednesday.

On Friday, showers are forecast for areas north of Taoyuan and in Yilan and Hualien, with heavier rain possible in northeastern Taiwan, and rain will continue into next week, CWA forecaster Wang Pin-hsiang (王品翔) said.

Showers are also expected next week in areas north of Taoyuan, Yilan, Hualien and the Hengchun Peninsula, with locally heavy rain possible in northeastern Taiwan, according to Wang.

Lows of 23-25 degrees are forecast for northern Taiwan and 25-27 degrees for the rest of the country, Wang said.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 30 formed east of Guam on Wednesday and could strengthen into Tropical Storm Choi-wan as early as Thursday, Wang said. The system is forecast to move west before turning north and is not expected to affect Taiwan.
