Taiwan's Tai Tzu-ying to lose World No. 1 spot

Taipei, Dec. 15 (CNA) Taiwan's badminton player Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) will lose her position as women's World No. 1 next week after losing to World No. 2 Chen Yu Fei (陳雨菲) of China Sunday in the women's single final at the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals in China.

Tai won the first game comfortably 21-12 , but was unable to stop Chen rallying to take the next two games 12-21, 17-21. The loss means Chen will become the new World No. 1 on Tuesday.

The pair had played each other 15 times prior to Sunday's match, with Tai leading the head-to-head 14-1.

Tai won the season-ending tournament in 2014 and 2016.

The 2019 BWF World Tour Finals was the final tournament of the 2019 BWF World Tour, held from Dec. 11-15 in Guangzhou, China, with a total purse of US$1,500,000.
