Taipei, May 8 (CNA) Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and partner Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's doubles at Mutua Madrid Open on Tuesday.

The fifth seeds defeated the pairing of Jennifer Brady of the United States and Jessica Moore of Australia 6-3, 7-6 (2) in just under 90 minutes.

After winning the final three games of the first set to jump into the lead, Hsieh and Strycova fell behind 2-4 in the second set before getting a much needed break.

They eventually sent the set to a tiebreaker, which they won easily after jumping to a 5-0 lead.

Their quarterfinal opponent will not be known until later Wednesday, but if the seedings prevail, they will likely face third seeds Samantha Stosur of Australia and Zhang Shuai (張帥) of China.

Hsieh was also entered in the singles draw of the US$7.02 million tournament, but she fell in the first round to Caroline Garcia of France 7-5, 6-2.

The only other Taiwanese competing in the tournament, Latisha Chan (詹詠然) and Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) in the women's doubles, were ousted in a first-round match.
