ASIAN GAMES/Semifinal exit for Chen Po-yi in Asian Games men's soft tennis singles

Taipei, Sept. 23 (CNA) Taiwanese soft tennis player Chen Po-yi (陳柏邑) put up a good fight against defending champion Toshiki Uematsu of Japan in the men's singles semifinals on Wednesday before losing 4-2 at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

With bronze awarded to both losing semifinalists, Chen secured his second medal of this year's Asian Games following a silver in the men's team event.

The 23-year-old Chen told Taiwanese media he considered himself lucky to win two out of the semifinal's six games, calling Uematsu, winner of three golds at the 2022 Asian Games, "the final boss" of soft tennis.

Taiwan's soft tennis team finished this year's Asian Games with four medals: gold in mixed doubles, two silvers in the men's and women's team events, and Chen's bronze.

At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Taiwan's soft tennis team won three silver and two bronze medals.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Taiwanese athletes at this year's Asian Games had won 10 medals.
