Taiwan's Hsieh loses women's singles, doubles in Qatar
Taipei, Feb. 14 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis player Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) crashed out of the Qatar Total Open Thursday after losing in the last 16 of the women's singles in two straight sets and then the tournament's women's doubles.
The 33-year old was defeated by Karolina Muchova of Czech Republic 2-6 and 4-6 in the last 16 of the singles.
She then teamed up with Czech player Barbora Strycova against the pairing of Russian Veronika Kudermetova and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in the women's doubles.
The Hsieh-Strycova duo took the first set 6-4 but was defeated by the Russian-Latvian pair 6-3 before losing a super tie-break 4-10.
The Qatar Total Open is a premier tournament on the 2019 Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour, held from Feb. 11-16, with a purse of US$916,131.
