Taipei, Sept. 6 (CNA) Heavy rain across Taiwan is set to give way to prevailing cloudy-to-sunny skies Monday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Sunday.

The CWA issued heavy rain advisories for Taitung County, coastal areas of New Taipei, and mountainous areas of Taipei and Taichung on Sunday, indicating rainfall of more than 80 millimeters in 24 hours or 40 mm in one hour.

The CWA said that these areas could experience sudden heavy downpours and warned of landslides, falling rocks and rapidly rising water levels in mountainous areas.

As persistent rain eases on Monday, most of Taiwan is expected to see cloudy to sunny skies through Tuesday, with the chance of occasional scattered showers in areas north of Taoyuan, and afternoon showers in eastern Taiwan and mountainous regions, it added.

On Wednesday, seasonal northeasterly winds will strengthen and bring more humidity to the island, the CWA said.

On Thursday and Friday, northern and eastern parts of the country will experience localized showers, the CWA predicted.

Meanwhile, other parts of the country will see mostly sunny skies, except for brief afternoon showers, the CWA said.
