Taipei, July 14 (CNA) The Michelin Guide Taiwan on Tuesday announced its 2026 Bib Gourmand selection, with 146 restaurants recognized nationwide, including 13 new additions.
The Bib Gourmand distinction highlights restaurants that offer quality food at reasonable prices, allowing diners to enjoy value-for-money meals, according to Michelin.
More than 80 percent of the newly selected restaurants feature Taiwanese local cuisine and traditional Hakka specialties, Michelin said.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said this year's Bib Gourmand selection places greater emphasis on casual and authentic dining experiences, as well as popular street food and local culinary culture.
"Today, Taiwan stands out not only for its outstanding culinary skills, but also for its spirit of cultural exchange and openness, making it one of Asia's most exciting culinary destinations," Poullennec said in a press release.
The four new Taipei selections are Ching Jiao, Open Smile, Toriaezu Curry and Yu Yu 1969.
Ching Jiao focuses on chicken soup dishes, while Open Smile specializes in Taiwanese braised pork dishes. Toriaezu Curry serves Japanese-style curry, and Yu Yu 1969 offers Taiwanese stir-fried dishes.
The new Taichung selection is Don Moo, known for homemade duck dishes.
The three new additions in Tainan are Baa Wanli Goat, Chan Chi and Zhu-Ji Dong Tsai Ya, which serve traditional dishes including goat hotpot, fish soup and duck cuisine.
New Taipei's three additions are Abba Hakka, Bei Ya Duck Thick Soup and Bitan Chiao Tou Goose, featuring Hakka dishes, duck meat soup and smoked goose.
The two new selections in Hsinchu County are Monsoon, which presents Hakka cuisine through vegetarian dishes, and Yi Ge Rice Vermicelli, which serves traditional Hsinchu snacks.
This year's Bib Gourmand list covers 37 restaurants in Taipei, 23 in Taichung, 30 in Tainan, 21 in Kaohsiung, 18 in New Taipei, 10 in Hsinchu County and seven in Hsinchu City.
The full list of Michelin Guide Taiwan 2026 restaurant selections will be announced at an event on July 21.
