Taipei, April 14 (CNA) Daytime temperatures in Taiwan are expected to rise as high as 30 degrees Celsius on Monday, though nighttime lows will remain relatively chilly, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Afternoon highs are forecast to reach around 26 to 29 degrees in northern Taiwan, and 29 to 30 degrees in central and southern Taiwan, the weather agency said Monday.
Hualien and Taitung counties are expected to be slightly cooler, with daytime temperatures reaching 24 to 25 degrees, according to the CWA.
Conditions are expected to remain stable in Taiwan's outlying islands, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degrees in Penghu County, 15 to 26 degrees in Kinmen County, and 16 to 25 degrees in the Matsu Islands (Lienchiang County), the agency forecast.
However, the CWA warned of temperature fluctuations, noting that overnight lows may drop to 12 to 14 degrees in northern Taiwan and 18 to 19 degrees in the south.
As weakening northeasterly winds give way to milder conditions, most of Taiwan can expect clear or partly cloudy skies on Monday, the CWA said.
While brief scattered showers are possible in southern Taiwan, dry weather is likely to prevail elsewhere, the agency added.
Looking ahead, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), an adjunct associate professor at National Central University, said Monday that a high-pressure system will continue to affect Taiwan's weather through Tuesday.
He said the system will bring summer-like heat, with daytime highs exceeding 32 degrees in many areas and reaching 35 degrees in the south.
Wu predicted that the high-pressure system will linger until Wednesday, bringing continued warm and mostly sunny weather.
