Taipei, March 11 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said that the recent sunny and warm weather will end Thursday, as a weather front brings rain across Taiwan.

The weather will remain sunny in Taiwan during the day on Wednesday, with highs in western Taiwan reaching 28-31 degrees Celsius, CWA forecaster Chang Chung-chuan (張承傳) told CNA.

However, an approaching weather front may lead to sporadic rain and thundershowers in northern Taiwan on Thursday night, he said.

He said the front will bring rain across the country from Thursday to Sunday. Heavier rain is expected in northern and central Taiwan on Thursday and northern Taiwan on Friday and Saturday.

Localized showers and thundershowers are expected elsewhere on Friday and Saturday.

On Sunday, the north coast and western half of Taiwan may see showers or thundershowers, while other areas may experience sporadic showers, he said.

Meanwhile, the CWA said that a cold mass is set to hit Taiwan on Saturday and will last until March 20.

Temperatures will start to drop on Saturday night and continue to fall throughout Sunday, Chang said.

The CWA said temperatures in northern Taiwan will drop from 17 degrees in the morning to 12-14 degrees at night. Meanwhile, lows will drop to 14 degrees in central Taiwan and 16 degrees in southern Taiwan.

Chang predicted that the coldest period would be early morning on March 18 when lows could dip under 10 degrees in some parts of the north. However, highs could hit 18 degrees.

CWA data showed that lows in central and southern Taiwan will drop to 12-14 degrees that day, while highs will reach 18-19 degrees in central Taiwan and 20 degrees in southern regions.

Chang said snow may fall on mountains over 3,000 meters in northern and central Taiwan on Sunday and Monday.
