CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 32,128 new COVID-19 cases, 29 deaths

Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) Taiwan on Sunday reported 32,128 new cases of COVID-19 and 29 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but one suffered from chronic illnesses or other severe diseases, and 16 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.

Also on Sunday, the CECC reported 22 cases newly classified as severe and 49 as moderate.

Of the 5,604,979 domestically transmitted cases recorded in Taiwan this year, 10,976 have been classified as severe infections and 14,134 as moderate, accounting for 0.20 percent and 0.25 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data as of Sept. 10.

Regional breakdown

Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases on Sunday, with 6,375, followed by Taichung with 4,220 and Taipei with 3,959.

Taoyuan had 3,404 new cases, Kaohsiung 2,588, Tainan 1,796, Changhua 1,524, Hsinchu County 953, Hsinchu City 824, Miaoli 803, Pingtung 799, Yunlin 749, and Yilan 738.

Keelung had 686 cases, Nantou 562, Hualien 542, Chiayi County 455, Chiayi City 303, Taitung 279, Kinmen 168, Penghu 118, and the Matsu Islands nine, the CECC said.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 5,682,133 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 5,651,417 imported cases.

With the 29 deaths reported Sunday, the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 10,268.
