
Taipei, Sept. 6 (CNA) Taiwan on Tuesday reported 36,707 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their teens to their 90s. All but one suffered from chronic illnesses or other severe diseases, and eight were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
Also on Tuesday, the CECC reported 16 cases newly classified as severe and 33 as moderate.
Of the 5,423,326 domestically transmitted cases recorded in Taiwan this year, 10,768 have been classified as severe infections and 13,769 as moderate, accounting for 0.20 percent and 0.25 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data as of Sept. 5.
Regional breakdown
On Tuesday, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases, with 7,795, followed by Taipei with 4,606, and Taichung with 4,574.
Taoyuan had 3,588 new cases, Kaohsiung 2,894, Tainan 2,183, Changhua 1,540, Hsinchu County 1,045, Pingtung 993, Miaoli 925, and Hsinchu City 894.
Yilan reported 884 cases, Yunlin 854, Hualien 758, Keelung 660, Nantou 581, Chiayi County 555, Chiayi City 369, Taitung 331, Penghu 186, Kinmen 156, and the Matsu Islands 22, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 5,503,725 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 5,474,280 domestic cases.
With the 21 deaths reported Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 10,115.
