Taipei, Feb. 1 (CNA) A continental cold front will continue to push temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius in many parts of Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said, issuing a cold weather warning for 18 cities and counties Saturday.

An "orange" cold alert was issued for Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli, indicating that temperatures at low altitudes could drop below 6 degrees Celsius between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the CWB said.

The bureau also issued a "yellow" alert, meaning temperatures below 10 degrees are expected in Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi (city and county), Tainan, Kaohsiung, Yilan, Hualien and Kinmen over the same period.

On Saturday, daytime temperatures are expected to remain around 17-18 degrees in northern Taiwan, and 22-23 degrees in central and southern areas.

Although the weather is forecast to warm up a little during the day, temperatures will remain low at night due to the effects of radiative cooling, with the mercury in much of the country dipping to below 10 degrees, the bureau said.
