Taipei, June 6 (CNA) Lin Chi-ling (林志玲), one of Taiwan's top models and actress, tied the knot with Akira, a member of Japanese boy band, EXILE, on Thursday.

Akira, 37, made the announcement on the official Facebook fan page of EXILE, surprising the entertainment world in Japan and Taiwan.

According to Akira, he and the 44-year-old Lin have been friends for eight years. They met when performing in a play in Japan in 2011 and began dating late last year, he said.

Akira said he was deeply attracted to Lin's character and the way she always prioritizes her family despite her busy work schedule.

"Lin receives me with a smile every time. That kind of tenderness makes me long to give her happiness," Akira wrote in his post.

Meanwhile, Lin issued a statement that said their feelings for each other have grown over the years.

Akira's management company announced that the couple registered their marriage in Tokyo after doing the same in Taiwan on June 6, adding that Lin is not pregnant.

Akira, whose real name is Ryohei Kurosawa, joined the J-pop group EXILE in 2006.

He has acted in a number of TV dramas in Japan, including 2010 Hong Kong superhero martial arts film Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen and the 2012 remake of the Great Teacher Onizuka series, which has been broadcast on Fuji TV since July 2012.

In 2017, he appeared in Silence, a historical period drama directed by renowned director Martin Scorsese.
