Taipei, March 17 (CNA) Several Taiwanese companies will be joining a global artificial intelligence conference in California this week, hosted by American technology giant Nvidia Corp., which is a leader in the design of graphics processing units.
When the five-day Nvidia GTC opens Monday in San Jose, more than 20 Taiwanese tech companies will be participating in the show, either as exhibitors or sponsors.
Among them are Asus, Hon Hai, Quanta Cloud Technology and Delta, which will enter the show as four of the 16 second-level Diamond Sponsors, according to the Nvidia GTC website, which also lists six top-tier Elite Sponsors, none of which are Taiwanese.
This is the first time that Hon Hai, better known as Foxconn in the global market, is participating as a Diamond Sponsor. As a result, the company has decided to scale up its presence to showcase its progress in Frontier Artificial Intelligence, smart manufacturing, Digital Twins technology, healthcare robotics, and the GB200 server system, which was released in collaboration with Nvidia, according to the event's website.
Several other Taiwanese companies are participating in the conference as fourth- and fifth-tier Gold or Silver Sponsors, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. listed as the sole A La Carte exhibitor, on the strength of its supply of semiconductor chips to Nvidia, the website says.
Meanwhile, some of the participating Taiwanese companies joined a presentation held Saturday ahead of the GTC by American venture capital firm Plug and Play Tech Center, which specializes in funneling capital to early-stage technology companies.
The Taiwan firms at Saturday's event were led by the Taiwan Next Foundation and included companies like MetAI who is part of Nvidia's inception program and was showcasing its latest developments in Digital Twins technology.
For the first time since the launch of the Nvidia GTC in 2009, the conference will include an event called the GTC Night Market, which echoes the background of Nvidia's Taiwan-born founder and CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳).
Known as a big fan of Taiwan night markets, Huang has enlisted the participation of 20 local food vendors and artisans in San Jose in the GTC Night Market.
On Tuesday, he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the GTC, as he has done in previous years to great acclaim.
Nvidia GTC is a global artificial intelligence conference that features developers, engineers, researchers, inventors and IT professionals, with a focus on artificial intelligence, computer graphics, data science, machine learning and autonomous machines.
This year's event, being held March 17-21 at the San Jose Convention Center, will include 1,000 sessions, over 400 exhibits, and multiple interactive networking sessions for business leaders.
